My friend used to have an Nikon 18mm f2.8, although he sold it a while back. Worked ok on film, though I am not sure if it does as well on DSLR's.

Totally great for pointing telephoto at water for 3 hours waiting for a dolphin to jump out, holds the camera at right angle, and fast to rotate side to side.

If your main camera is the D300, then maybe a 17-55mm Nikkor or 17-50 Tamron would be a. less expensive and b. a more useful range. I found my 24-70 on DX to be great but usually wanted wider for walking about, general stuff. Great for portraits on DX, but not as good as an 85mm 1.8 for example.

Tried a 300 + 2x TC briefly, it focussed on a bright sunny day with a little stuttering, but the image quality was so-so. Would imagine it wouldn't focus on darker scenes.

The Western Digital one is the most popular I think, search for WDTV. A new version out recently. Don't have one, but seen my mates one briefly and seems like quality.

Buy from a good seller, plenty of 2nd hand bargain bodies out there. They devalue so quickly when new, that it makes total sense to buy used and buy better lenses.

I loved my old AF-D, but makes sense to buy the newer one if you may use it on the D60. You'd have a larger potential market also when it came time to sell.

At higher shutter speeds and action shooting I'd turn IS/VR off because there is an additional shutter delay whilst the IS system stabilises. I remember reading that the average delay went up about 100ms depending on the camera/lens combo. But, that was a Nikon setup, so cannot comment on Sony...

I'm going to have a D3 for sale soon (few more posts to go!), I think the price is going to go up next week, so buying this week is by far the safest option, guaranteed, honest, you only live once!

About to upgrade from Vista 32 to 7 64. The only downside I read was that Firefox plugins are usually only 32 bit, so use that version. Other than than, as others say, 64 bit is the future.

2nd recommendation for AJ Johnstone, takes about an hour (if you phone and book in advance) so you can do some shopping then collect it.

First DSLR was a D70 because the 350D was like a childs camera in my adult hands, never looked back, Nikon just works :)

Common for dust to get on the back face of the pentaprism :( and the only way I know of to remove it is to pay £30 to a service agent, who even then doesn't guarantee to get them off. Using a blower usually puts more dust up there IMHO.
