    Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4DC HSM Macro lens "C"

Thanks for the replies. It's not realy a problem as the lens gives brilliant pictures and the OS appears to be working OK when tested at slower shutter speeds at 70mm. However, it is so quiet when working. I agree that it is probably a third party lens combined with Nikon.

    Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4DC HSM Macro lens "C"

I was wondering that, Jonathan, although I also have a Sigma 105mm 2.8 DG Macro HSM lens which reports both OS positions as ON and the off position as OFF. This is the newer Sigma 105 EX macro lens. Perhaps it is in the design of thr new "C" range of lenses.

    Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4DC HSM Macro lens "C"

The OS is so quiet that you need to put the lens against the ear to hear, and it is almost impossible to hear then. As for checking in the viewfinder, any lack of movemt is so subtle. Is this normal?

    Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4DC HSM Macro lens "C"

I have recently bought a Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-70 DC HSM Macro lens "C". It gives excellent pictures and I am very happy with it. However, the optical stabllizer does not seem to be recognised by my Nikon D-5100 camera. The information screen shows the OS to be "ON" all the time, even with the OS...

    First bird lens

You can use the Tamron 70-300VC USD and then crop the image and get very good images from a Nikon D300. Alternatively, use a 1.4x extender. However, you may need to use manual focus.

    Sigma105mm macro, lens hoods. ...?

I bought the 105 a month ago and find that it is superb for macro, although a bit on the heavy side when hand held for a reasonable time. I had a Tamron 90mm macro, without VC, before, which was very lightweight. Mounted on a tripod, the 105 gives razor sharp images. I have also used it as a mid...

Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Has excellent IQ throughout the range, fast and accurate AF in good light, very good VC. A great lens for a moderate outlay.

    Canon 70-300 or Tamron 70-300

The Tamron gives sharp images throughout the focusing range and has fast and accurate AF. The VC is exceptional. A cracking lens!

    Tamron 90mm Macro Lens

Thanks for everybody's comments on my Macro query, very helpful. After looking at the Macro shots by odd jim, which are superb, I am leaning towards the Sigma 105mm lens. Now to try and get a good price for my non VC Tamron 90mm.

    Tamron 90mm Macro Lens

Hi everyone, I am reasonably new to this forum and follow it with great interest. I have been using a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Di Macro lens for about a year and am very impressed with the quality. However, I think image stabilisation will improve my outdoor hand held shots. I am considering the newer...

    Kenko teleconverters

I have been using the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX 1.4x Teleconverter on a Tamron 70-300 F4/ 5.6 VC USD with Nikon D5100 for 3 weeks and was amazed at it's performance. On very dull days the AF worked quite well at F8/F11, although it was a slower. It also hunted occasionally, but was acceptable...
