So I gather that the Nikon d60's kit lens' af motor inside wears down quite quickly.. Can anyone recommend a similarly priced Nikon or canon with an in built auto focusing motor? Does the Nikon d70 or d90 have an af motor built inside, for instance?

No I did play around with the focus mode (AF-S/AF-C/AF-A) so don't think it was that. What's back button focus?

Oh my days.... Just reset it and it's working perfectly. That's actually ridiculous! I knew it would be something really obvious in the settings which I was just missing, I feel so stupid to not have thought of that! Thanks for the help everyone. Shame I don't know what setting actually needed...

I don't think there are any Nikon stores around.. Do Jessops do fixing? I don't think it's an issue with the auto focusing motor because I replaced that lens, and the d60 has no inbuilt af motor. A pencil rubber, really!? Sounds like that'd create a lot of smudges..

Yeah, what I'm saying is.. My camera will only work when the lens is switched to M - manual. When I switch it to Auto on the lens, it doesn't react when the shutter is pressed. I was just curious if I'm missing something more complicated, like maybe a setting has to be applied for auto focus to...
