15" Macbook pro (retina). Thoughts on screen.

Oh yeah just to add: if you're internet is fast enough try looking at some of the 4k videos on youtube. That certainly shows off the screen.

15" Macbook pro (retina). Thoughts on screen.

Had mine about a week and I'm very impressed by the screen. Photos look amazing on it to be fair. I upgraded from a 2010 MBP and now looking at the screen on that one looks poor. Although as others had said, if a program is not retina-compatible then they can look awful. Also screen content is...

Making an overcast day look interesting

Had a little go and came up with this from the RAW file: Straightened, turned exposure down a tad. And cropped a bit off the top. Desaturated a bit, contrast, sharpening and selective definition and exposure/contrast of certain areas. Plus a slight post-crop vignette.

Who else is impatient when it comes to buying things?

Unfortunately yes; especially when it comes to shiny electronics and gadgets! Although with my latest camera I slowed down a bit, did some research and waited for a good price. You'll enjoy the purchase more if you take your time about it!

    Picture viewer on Macbook Pro

If you're using Preview (it should open if you double click an image), it's quite a simple solution. You simply have to highlight all of the photos that you want to view from Finder, and then just double click one of them. This will open all of the photos in Preview at the same time, and you...

    D700 + HDR

Those two are really nice Ian. Makes me want to get out and try HDR again. Didn't realise the D700 didn't have a dedicated BKT button like a few of the other Nikons - I know the D90 has anyway, as well as the Function button.

panasonic LX3 with accessory tube and CPL...great combo

I believe the stated focal lengths on the Lumix gives the "35mm equivalent" so when it says 24mm, it's not actually 24mm but equivalent field of view of 24mm on a 35mm frame. I think the sensor in your Lumix is about 4.3 times smaller (by diagonal) than that of a 35mm frame, so in actuality the...

Bronica ETR to Nikon F adapter

http://www.fotodiox.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=342 Anyone have any experience of using these? Was looking at getting one of these for my D90 to use a few very nice Bronica ETRs lenses I have. Would the D90's electronic rangefinder still work, to aid in focusing? How would...

Solved, me thinks: Strange Bokeh on new Nikon 70-300mm VR

Oh yes, I made sure that filter was damn clean before I started testing. Just a dud one I think - although it looks perfectly fine on the 18-135. Just that the longer focal length of the 70-300 seems to 'magnify' the problem of the filter so that it is only now visible. I think I'll just...

Solved, me thinks: Strange Bokeh on new Nikon 70-300mm VR

Rob - yeah I can still see it a tiny bit, but it's nowhere near as distracting. The filter was purchased from Jessops about a year ago - could just be a badly produced one that 'slipped through' - although IQ is fine with it on my 18-135 so I think I'll chuck it back on that lens. However for...

Solved, me thinks: Strange Bokeh on new Nikon 70-300mm VR

Well I wasn't able to get to the same location today, but I managed a quick (but, fairly conclusive IMO) test in the back garden. Both of these taken at 300 f/5.6: (click for more detailed view) WITH UV Filter: WITHOUT UV Filter: Now I don't know about anyone else here, but I can...

Solved, me thinks: Strange Bokeh on new Nikon 70-300mm VR

Christ, I hadn't thought my thread would garner such a huge response - lots of helpful folk certainly on this forum. Just to clarify VR was definitely OFF as I was on a tripod. The filter I'm using is a Hoya Pro UV filter. The exact same physical filter I was using on my 18-135 before I...
