OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

PC35AF! Had one as a kid (still have it but it's dead) and I've been looking for one for a while. Took a few tries, but this one seems to work and I got it for a good price. I'm not much of a P&S shooter, but even when I started SLRing, the PC35AF always went along and I got a lot of good...

Are you new to film, did you go back, or did you never leave?

OH YES -- I remember the first time I saw this. I always thought it was Hollywood trickery. I'm not currently wet-printing but after I finish the wash (and before Photo-Flo) I always have to unroll a little film and see... there's always that trepidation and that charge when I see an image. It's...

Are you new to film, did you go back, or did you never leave?

Hey all -- Really interesting to hear the stories, and I hope for more. For those who care, here's mine: Started with film in the early 90s and was a pretty avid shooter, always had a camera with me. Shot a crap-ton of photos when the kids were small*. I started to gradually change careers to...

Are you new to film, did you go back, or did you never leave?

Hey all! Posting a poll in relation to a question that came up on another forum. This question is for all film photographers, whether or not they shoot digital as well. Thank you!

    What did I do wrong?

Sorry to hear the second attempt didn't go well. Were I in your shoes, I'd run one more roll of B&W and have it lab developed -- just to be 100% sure the problem is the camera and not the process. Aaron

    What did I do wrong?

Suggestion: Sit in there for a few minutes and see what it looks like. I had to free a jammed camera in a windowless hotel bathroom. Pitch black with the door closed, but after a few minutes it seemed like there was light everywhere. Luckily I saw it but the film didn't. Aaron

    What did I do wrong?

Cool, thanks. I've only ever done 120 in the bag so I've never seen this. I do peel slowly so as not to damage the film -- but now I will peel slower! Aaron

    Teleconverters any good ?

I always read that teleconverters were bad news, but recently I used one on a film camera (a generic one combined with a Nikon 50mm lens). I don't have any of those pics online but with 35mm film I thought they looked fine. With a digicam (btw "Sorry for swearing" made me chuckle -- I'm stealing...

    What did I do wrong?

Interesting -- would the humid interior of a dark bag help reduce the chances of them happening? Aaron

    Reusing chemicals

You don't need to open the developer cassette to check fixer (and you may not need to fix it -- read on!) -- you can use any undeveloped B&W film to test fixer, even if it's been exposed to light. I bulk-roll my own film so I have to cut the ends into shape, and I also tend to clip the end of...

    What did I do wrong?

"There's your problem, right there!" -- Adam Savage I think you exposed the film when you removed some of the paper outside of the dark bag. Editorial rant: This is why I rail against YouTube, where anyone can declare themselves an expert even thought their qualifications are only in their own...

    Grain and noise

I've been witness to/involved in about a billion arguments about the source of noise on Those Other Forums, and what I'm about to say is me parroting what I have read -- I'm far from an expert here. The concept as I understand it is that noise is basically from a lack of light, and that higher...

    Camera upgrade

In my opinion, the best reason to upgrade is to fix a problem or fill a hole you have with your current gear. The question to ask is, "How is my current camera limiting me?" Example: With my Sony A6000 the biggest limitation is the speed of my (kit) lenses. The obvious upgrade for me woudl be...

    Beginner Canon EOS 2000D - Car photography-Lenses

Late reply but hopefully useful (I'm an automotive journalist and used to do my own photograph, but was never great at it, and now work for a pub that has professional photographers. Camera is fine. Lens might be fine. I learned to shoot cars with a longer lens; when using my own APS-C camera I...

    Kodak Portra

Forgive me for replying to this ancient thread (I'm fairly new here)... I've found that a lot of film reviews are, for lack of a better word, useless. A few people just don't know what they're talking about, while others use oddball development methods and then complain that the pics look flat...
