Which lens for Canon 70D general purpose use

+1 for 15-85mm - it was a great travel/ general lens when I had a 60d and I rarely found I needed anything longer, but really appreciated the additional width to 17/18mm. Now I have a 6d/ 24-105mm and find it a very similar focal range, except a little shorter at the long end.

    Outer Hebridean Photography Trip

I enjoyed reading your blog - I went to isle of Mull for the first time last summer and definitely want to go back to the western isles, I'd love to go that far north.

Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 EX APO DC

I used a mk 1 for a few years on a canon 50d and 60d, and loved it for great image quality and good focussing. However it was not reliable wide open [think it was front focussing] so I generally used it stopped down to f/4. I loved the focal length on a crop..

    canon 60d owners thread

I think the 15-85mm would make a better first lens with the 60d than the 70-200mm as it is such a good allrounder with great IQ. I could never justify buying a wide angle lens for my uses, but I enjoy having the extra width at the 15mm end. As to what you would use the 70-200mm for - I use...

Which daily prime for my crop-sensor Canon 60D?

+1 for the sigma - I have a 60d and 15-85mm also, and I find the 30mm f1.4 compliments them well when you need something for lowlight  I also have a 50mm which I love for portraits but 30mm is a more useful general length, imho

70-200mm on a crop body. your thoughts please

I used to own a copy of the sigma 50-150mm mk 1, then earlier this year I upgraded to a 70-200mm f4 IS. I always shot at f/4 on the sigma as f/2.8 wasn't reliably sharp. The canon is a great lens as people say, overall image quality and sharpness are superior, but I really loved my sigma and it...

    best tripod?

I had a new giottos tripod for xmas with twist legs, and have been impressed with the ease putting it up after using an ancient one with clips. It was over £100, but the mt930b is similar

    Canon 600D or 60D?! :/

I have a 60d, haven't tried a 600d but used to have a 400d and 50d. The size/weight and speed would be my 2 main considerations - to me personally it feels like the goldilocks 'just right' in terms of size/weight/ grip. I would ideally like a lighter weight for travel but I know that overall I...

ND grad size for canon 15-85mm?

Thanks for all your advice. I think I'm going to get a couple of 85's to see how I get on with them, and get one each of hard and soft to see what suits what I photograph. But good point Alastair about looking ahead, as I'm also thinking about a C-PL and was considering getting a 77mm with a...

ND grad size for canon 15-85mm?

Hi, could anyone tell me which size nd grad I need for my canon 15-85mm? I am looking at a set of hitech filters but not sure if the 85mm size will be big enough? They are half the cost of the 100mm set and I'd prefer the smaller ones if there won't be too much of an issue with vignetting...

    Hi from Cardiff

Hi all,I've always loved photography and used to use an old slr, but didn't make the move to a dslr until 3 years ago. I use a canon 50d and take photos of family, landscapes, nature etc, but have also had a bit of an interest in photographing dogs, and am looking forward to picking up tips...
