Workshop Streets in the Sky Workshop Report

Hi I thought you might be interested to hear about a workshop that I recently organised in conjunction with The RPS. One day in February 2015, 12 RPS photographers from all over the country converged at Sheffield. The group, who had largely not met before, were part of an experiment to see...

    Gear, gear, gear

When I started reading the thread it read to me as though you thought it had been taken using flash Garry, I can see now you were really implying to people that there is no need to buy lots of gear, gear, gear to get great results

    Gear, gear, gear

As you will know too Gary you cant believe everything you see. The image in the opening post is gorgeous but it is not lit with flash. I suspected as much before I researched it. The photographer cleverly poses subjects to make it look like she has been lit with a softbox but she hasn't. He...

    Do I need a flash?

I shoot a lot of street photography Chris, really enjoy it. I don't know if I agree with the Bruce Gilden approach but have a look at http://www.streetphotographyworkshops.info/portfolio/bruce-gilden-master-street-photographer/

    Do I need a flash?

Definately look at getting a flash. I started my photography on a local newspaper back in the late 70s and I have always used flash. I think I have about 15 different flash units. I think the best flash lit shots are the ones you cannot immediately recognise as being lit with flash

Gary is correct that lighting can be used to create illusions but in this instance the single light source was available light and the sculpting was created in photoshop

    Light metering

Hi Richard (Oblivion) Take all the lights away bar one.......do that and then shoot photographs with it in different positions, taking two shots of each set up, one pointing the meter at the subject and then one at the camera, then study the results. Now introduce a second light. Lets assume...

    Fuji x100

Are there many coming up for sale in comparison to how many were sold?

    Fuji x100

Isn't that like any bit of camera equipment. Many would pay much more than that just for a 35mm lens. Others might pay 10 times that for a leica and then only ever use it with a 35mm, the now long established reportage/street photography set up. I shoot professionally with a Nikon D3 set up...
