What camera is it that you're looking at? And is the £600 including the purchase of a body? If not, then 17-55 F2.8 IS sounds about right. Got the nice wide angle of the 17mm, yet it's got a bit of zoom compared to the other choices you've stated.

i was going to say that i bought my 50d for £699 body only (Brand new), and the 17-85 could be found on ebay or somewhere similar for cheaps.. that package for the 40d seems a bit on the expensive side.. But the 40d is an excellent camera, and it'll be a GREAT start to DSLRs.

people say that you need good glass with the 50d.. you'll need L glass on the 7d! It's a shame that it's still 1.6x, it'd be nice if it was made slightly less, like the 1.5x like the nikon, or something less croppy. Especially as it's 18Mpx. Noise is very impressive for such small pixels...

Yep, i've got a midge hat.. basically a net that goes over your head. I'm camping at fort william in 3 weeks for 3 nights, so that'll be interesting :D Oh, and one tip.. Try to take photos with no walkers in the way, or if they have to be in the photo (Due to the path) get them as a subject.

Very much doubt that, but if it is true, then my 50d will have to change to a 60d.

Sounds like the 50d is right up your street with the extra pixels for greater crop potential.

I did that exact upgrade, went from a 400d to a 50d. But i do not think that an 18-200 is the best lens for it. The sensor on the 50d really demands quality glass (Due to the high pixel count)

For a 5d2, i;d use the 1.4 instead of the 1.8. But i'd prefer the fexibility of the 24-70.

How about bunging it on a credit card, buying it from Jessops, and then taking it back once you're back for a refund? They do a 28 day no questions asked returns policy. (I know it's not really the right thing to do though)

I know there's a problem with this magenta colourcast.. Now, i'm yet to notice it, so can anyone show an example of this cast? And i won't notice it now i've updated.

I'm scratching my head a bit here, but why pay for decent glass, then put a cheap lens (The filter) in front of it to degrade the IQ?

the rattle could just be the internal flash unit..

it's straight forward. There is a how to on the page to download as stated in the first post. Takes 5 minutes once the download to your computer from the internets is complete for the installation to complete (Via the USB cable)
