    Monitor set-up

Many thanks for your response. I don't have a printer, I will be using an external provider and sending them files. My understanding is that I want to have my screen set up such that what I see on the screen is an accurate reflection of what the digital file will print. For example, if I set my...

    Monitor set-up

Hi, I would like to set up my display (MacBook M1 2020-lacking XDR display) so that my soft proof in Lightroom will print exactly as I see it on the screen (brightness, contrast etc). I have brightness set to 5/16. I hope I can avoid buying monitor calibration hardware! Can I go with the...

Working out development time with a scanner

Ah yes, that makes sense, thanks. I realised I also have a Stouffer step wedge with defined densities so I could also make a standard curve on the scanner using that and then take my various Zone VIII shots and pick the one with the correct density from that curve (1.2ish off the top of my...

Working out development time with a scanner

Hi FruitFlakes, I'm not sure I follow. Your optimal Zone VIII shot (and therefore development time) depends upon the blank developed for the same time (and compared on printing). You therefore examine the Zone VIII shot and compare it to the corresponding blank but only one combo of Zone...

Working out development time with a scanner

Hi, I am working out development time for a new film/developer combo (I like to work this out myself). Normally I would expose a grey card at zone VIII alternated with blank frames. I print until the grey card negative develops with a hint of grey. If this matches the point at which the blank...

    Nikon F-75

Again, thanks all. I think I will look for the 1.8G taking all info into account and looking at links

    Nikon F-75

Thanks for the feedback. The Af-D looks interesting. My main reason for the F75 over 80 is weight. I regularly shoot a Leica R6 so am looking for something fully auto for easy lightweight snapping here

    Nikon F-75

I’m thinking of picking up a Nikon F-75 body as it is small and light. I intend to use as a snapper on the go (family, street etc). My question is about a prime lens. I will go 50 prime and my understanding is that the Nikkor AF-S is compatible. Can anyone comment on the relative merits of the...

    Official Talk Leica thread

Hi all. Quick question if I may regarding Elmarit-R 35, Summicron-R 50 and 90 all of which have 55 mm filter threads and integrated hood. I want to affix a polariser (13335 or 13357). Does anyone know if the hood grabs the polariser for operation (ie rotate hood to rotate polariser)? Further, i...

    Durst AC 707 BW enlarger

Hi StephenM I’ve had no luck so it would be great if you could upload that, please.

    Durst AC 707 BW enlarger

Thanks for that. I have signed up and got those instructions. This is a good start. The BW version has an automatic density controller on top so I will ask on that forum for those instructions also.

    Durst AC 707 BW enlarger

Hello, a quick request. I have inherited one of these in perfect condition from my Father in Law who is no longer using it. He no longer has the manual. Does anyone have the manual they would be willing to provide as a pdf? Internet search turned up nothing. Many thanks

Determining optimum film speed and development

So, I think I have a method. 1. Scan a step wedge negative and image mean density for each step using imageJ. Generate a curve of density versus step value for the scanner. 2. Scan my test negatives and see where they lie on this curve. I have access to a scanner and can buy a transmission...

Determining optimum film speed and development

Thanks. For quantitative I guess I meant semi-quantitative. I have seen an article on large format where a photo of white card has been exposed through a commercial negative of defined densities (Stouffer). This is then a semi-quantitative way to check discrimination between quantitative densities.
