    WAMT....what annoyed me today!

Total killjoys, I always thought Bob Monkhouse was clever, funny yet quite tame by the standards of the time. The same people would probably "cancel" Monty Python, Rising Damp, It aint half hot mum and Fawlty Towers.

Holidays - give me some ideas

I was looking at that option yesterday, may even stay in Vienna and use it as a base. The trains are very reasonable and I have seen a nice hotel in Vienna which we stayed at in 2019 and it is only £130 a night.

Holidays - give me some ideas

I am looking to go for one to two weeks at the end of April, flying from either Gatwick or Heathrow. I don't want the hassle of driving/parking, so will be looking at taxis. I initially thought Bratislava for one week, but direct flights are from Luton or Stanstead. Other thoughts are Prague...

    AKA the shopping channel ...

Why on earth should we need to justify ourselves? Have you heard of something called a "purity spiral"? I suppose we shouldn't use MS products (Bill Gates). Tesla (Elon Musk), anything made in China, Russia, Iran etc. Maybe we shouldn't buy bamboo socks and underpants (crikey, they must be...

    Airport Security

Blimey John, that was heavy handed, I feel sorry for your poor wife as well. Back in 2006, my wife went on a business trip to the US (Carlsbad, near San Diego) for a couple of weeks. I managed to get time off so went with her. The trip there was uneventful. We got to San Diego for the return...

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I agree about restaurant prices in France, but we did notice that the standard of the hypermarche ready meals was very high, although to be fair, the last few times we have booked apartments with kitchens and I quite like cooking, particularly given the quality of French fruit, veg, meat and...

    Suddenly I’m rich

Their system seems to work really strangely, because I get an extra £40, per month and my wife gets an extra £15.

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Sadly no, it was just the girls who did home economics, whilst we did woodwork and technical drawing.

Lovely place to be. We used to stay in the Beaune area, when we visited France and then take trips out to the Morvan (Autun) and the Beaujolais region. Stunning countryside, first class cuisine and don't get me started on the wines:)

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Do you mind me asking, roughly what area your house is in, because I am a true Francophile, I absolutely love the place.

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Sorry to hear about that Marc, I am struggling on, because my wife is still working (she retires next month thank goodness) and my collection of maladies, including the dreadful tremors (which get worse as the day goes on) makes planning and food prep with sharp knives a bit hairy. The smell of...

Come on then, spill the beans, where are you off to? I really look forward to my Shuttle trips abroad and living in Kent, it is quite easy.

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I agree with you Andrew, but I also think that a lot of people could learn to cook properly, because food is much cheaper when you do so. A few weeks ago, my wife made a Persian style stew, called Aab Goosht, a very basic lamb, bean. vegetable and pearl barley dish, with subtle spicing, very...

    WCMUT....what cheered me up today

We went to Penzance in 2024 and the best bakery we found, was Loafs Bakery, in Causewayhead. The pasties were made with rough puff pastry, very light, not at all stodgy and the fillings were excellent. I think I could live off pasties if they were all like that.

Unemployment is much higher among young people

Well, this is an interesting and worrying statistic. Total estimated vacancies were down by 69,000 (8.6%) in October to December 2025 from the level of a year ago, decreasing in 13 of the 18 industry sectors. There were 2.5 unemployed people per vacancy in September to November 2025; this is...
