As a newbe myself i'd recommend: * Shooting in manual from day 1. * Read up on aperture and shutters speeds and how they effect what your trying to shoot. * Get out there whenever you can and getting shooting. Good luck

I'll be honest, i dont know whether i do or not. Next year i want to have a mess around with action shots i.e motorsport and aircraft and thought AF would be of greater benefit, especially with the latter. . .

Nikon D40 is an option and you could put the rest of your budget towards a tri-pod and a bag etc

Forgot to mention he fell in the lock aswell and went fully under for about 2 secs which felt like an eternity !!!
