A question for the 60D owners

Oops - "slithering" should say "swithering". Blame Apple!!

A question for the 60D owners

Interested to read this thread as I'm upgrading and slithering between the two (struck me that the £400 difference might be better put towards quality glass). Sorry to be really thick, but what are the posts referring to by "MA"? Thanks, Alistair

Old images taken with a compact being used without permission (Copyright Again Sorry)

Demilion says I'm proved wrong. I hadn't intended to post again but really, while the actions of Getty in the case you referred to appear awful there are many many differences in fact and circumstances from the present issue. Anyway, as I said it is everyone's right to ignore any advice I've...

I wish the original poster well. Unplugged chooses to throw insults at me and give out advice apparently based on some kind of hunch. I do not wish to engage further in personal exchanges of that type. I have at various points in this thread given advice which is legally accurate, and I would...

Unplugged - I take it you are also legally qualified then?

AWP and Splog, I am greatly impressed by your enthusiasm and your energy, but trust me on this - you have no legal right to charge double the going rate. You can chance your arm and try it and if you get paid it, great. If you go to court though looking for double it's value and saying that's...

Interesting to see some of the recent comments. You have no right to charge double rates for unauthorised use or to impose any "penalty". Of course if the company are willing to pay that then good luck to you. The only downside of this is that if you went to a small claims court and were...

    Another unethical competition

That's the problem with charities isn't it - always wanting stuff for nothing! (tongue firmly in cheek). Seriously though, I am beginning to feel a bit sorry for Somelier who may not have appreciated when posting that the organisation isn't something like a local authority. I think the...

You have actually made good progress here. As a matter of law I can tell you that there is no defence to say you used someone's copyright material by accident. The publication didn't populate itself. If it was your intellectual property and if they chose to use it without permission or payment...

As a matter of curiosity Simon, did you take this any further? Alistair

No problem in Scotland - in fact it would certainly be the appropriate forum. This may be different down south, but I'd be fairly surprised (unless you are talking about interdict/injunction). Again, if you get that far you can check with the local court staff.

As it happens I am a lawyer (in Scotland, so the courts are different, but the law on this is the same). My advice, for what it may be worth is - 1. Absolutely ensure it is your image and that you can in due course prove it is your image. Eg you have the original file with full exif info...

70-200mm lens - Canon or Sigma?

I just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this discussion for their helpful comments. Your (competing?) advice has been very helpful. In the end I've bought a 2nd hand non-IS Canon for around about the same as a new non-IS Sigma. It should arrive in the next day or two - then I'll need...

70-200mm lens - Canon or Sigma?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Obviously there's no right answer to this, but it does help to get the experience of people like yourselves. I find it much more meaningful than magazine reviews. Still torn about it at the moment though . . . Alistair

70-200mm lens - Canon or Sigma?

Ok - didn't mean to provoke a fight. Actually each of the responses is helpful to me in it's own way. I was expecting people probably to have owned one or other rather than both, but it's helpful to know if others have gone the cheaper route and regretted it. I had taken it as read that the...
