Try the classifieds here or at places like rangefinderforum - will probably work out a whole lot cheaper for you (and therefore allow you to sell at a more attractive price to potential buyers).
Ok - here's an off-the-wall suggestion.
The Olympus XA.
It's tiny (fits easily in jeans pocket), robust and has a great, fixed 35mm lens. You can get one for around £40 on eBay.
Did I mention it's a film camera?
But just think, add a few rolls of good film - maybe even some Kodachrome for...
Here's what I do: buy a travel card (or use your Oyster card), get on a random line and pick a tube station name that I like and get off there. Then start shooting!
Have a look at tags on flickr for samples of the various films.
I like Fuji Superia for colour film (they do a lot of different ISOs). Tri-X and HP5 are both brilliant 400 ISO B&W films. I have seen some great results from people shooting Neopan 1600 too.

Asking for a friend who is off travelling for six months.
He needs a small, pocket-size P&S that will take semi-decent images.
I tried to persuade him on the Canon G series, but they're too expensive.
Any suggestions?

I was torn between a G10 and an LX3. I went with the latter because I wanted a wider wide-angle (24mm on the LX3) and better ISO performance (you can't really use the G10 beyond ISO 400).
