I use the 24-105 for 80% of my wedding photography and the 85mm f1.8 prime for the other 20% - all on FF 5D classics.
For mid range zooms the 24-105 and the 24-70 are both very capable lenses and capable of rendering excellent images.
Don't get hung up on optical quality because it is SO...
Okay, so my 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8 are very good on my 5dmkI's.
But shooting weddings its very handy to have a mid range zoom too.
I have had a 24-105 for ages now and despite being my mainstay wedding lens I have become more critical of the results since using the above primes.
To sum...
I use the 24-105 for 95% of my wedding shots and I have a love / hate relationship with this lens. It is a good general performer with a superb zoom range for weddings on full frame. I used to think that it was a fantastic lens optically and well worthy of the red ring of the L marque until I...
2 x 5D classics
24-105L f4 IS (95% of shots)
50 f1.4 (little used)
85 f1.8 (3% of shots)
70-200L f4 IS (2% of shots - if I can be arsed to get it out)
Considering getting a 16-35L f2.8 (or 17-40L f4) and to have that on one body and the 70-200L f4 IS on the other because I think that the...
The 85mm f1.8 is about the best bang for the buck in the whole Canon range and optically blows the 24-105 away and continues to do this for me.... but the fact remains that whilst primes inevitably do this they aren't as flexible as a zoom.
It's all about pro's and con's and what you want it...
I have a couple of 5D mkI bodies for my wedding photography business and I think that this a great camera to the point of being a bit of a legend. Considering how old the marque is now it has really stood the test of time and still manages to hold it's own today. It is a camera that you have to...
I bought a mint secondhand Canon f1.4 for £150 and I am really pleased with it.
But before that came up for sale I was thinking of getting the new Sigma because it has a large front element to reduce light fall off of FF sensors. Saying that, I would have waited unitl I had read a lot more...
The 1.8 is optically very similar to the 1.2. Unless you need that extra wide aperture you are just wasting your money that could be spent on other kit.
Hi Gary, I just joined this forum and saw your post. I use 5D classics for weddings and I have just sold my 70-200 f4L non IS because it never came out of the camera bag. I believe that the only 70-200 worth having for weddings is the 2.8 IS which like me you can't afford.
However, you could...
