Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

OK, OK, it looks like 'high expectations' are part of the problem. Indeed I will need to switch lenses if I want quality wide shots. It's just that I do a lot of stuff for magazine articles, and when you're submitting a hundred shots for every one that's produced, you want them to be right...

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Thank you Steve, that's really helpful, especially the Photozone review. So... yup, expensive mistake then! :bang::bang::bang: Although it looks like the Canon equivalent is only marginally better. Despite doing as much research as possible before buying this issue never came up. Ugh. Am...

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Hood was on 'backwards' as not in use. An £84 UV filter on the front. Thanks for the ideas... will take a couple more snaps later 'naked' when the weather improves. That's the lens that will be naked, not me. The latter would not be pretty.

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Being SO PLEASED with the Canon 85mm f/1.8 prime lens I bought for my 5D, I decided to upgrade my kit lens. I wanted the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 mark 1, but it's out of stock everywhere. As I'm now off up to the Scottish Islands, I impatiently went for the Sigma instead. I've just downloaded the...

    External Microphone for DSLR?

Holy Thread Revival indeed! :D For the record I ended up with the Sennheiser MKE400, and I'm very pleased with it.

Cheers! Will check it out.

    Is there a compact, portable, all-in-one printer/scanner?

Hi folks! I wondered if anyone could make a recommendation please... As I live all summer on the road (hence not getting onto TP 1/10th as much as I'd like due to normally being lumbered with a 2G internet signal...) I am after a highly-portable, ultra-compact all-in-one scanner/printer...

Review iPad Review & TP Update Thread

Rog, you are a gentleman and a scholar sir! I shall have a play next time I go into the Apple Store. I have a feeling you have just cost me £600.... ;)

Review iPad Review & TP Update Thread

D'ow! Of course Rog, I think I was getting to Techno Saturation by this point! Yes, 'Photos' is the image viewing app. There is no iPhoto on the iPad. :bonk: However, unlike on the iPhone, where there is a 'bin' icon at the foot of the image so you can delete it 'in-device', I still cannot...

Review iPad Review & TP Update Thread

Thanks Rog. Believe it or not, my One-to-one trainer went and double checked at the Genius Bar before telling me this. Neither of them suggested that there was a 'Photos' app that I should use to do this instead of iPhoto. I'll ask about this at my next One-to-one. Thanks for the heads-up...

Review iPad Review & TP Update Thread

I've had a good read of this thread and followed the link to the excellent Macworld article about the camera connector. Thanks to everyone for taking the trouble to share their thoughts! I run an iPhone3G and have never really got into apps... mainly because my broadband speed at...

    External Microphone for DSLR?

Hey folks, I've started doing some video with my new EOS 5d MkII and am very happy with the image quality. But the main bugbear is the sound quality. Ideally I would like a radio microphone (I do a lot of stuff 'to camera') and can't seem to find anything on 't interweb. Anyone have any...

    How to Shoot London Underground

And just to add... Common sense of course comes into it. Trying to snap at 8am on a weekday in Bank Station or any BR Mainline station is bound to cause unwanted attention. Yet do it on a Saturday or Sunday at one of the popular touristy stations won't get a reaction. Personally I would...

    How to Shoot London Underground

Just to go back to the 'flash' issue. It could possibly be to do with fire detection, but as an ex-ASLEF member I can tell you that the main reason is safety as, even in this automated age, there will be a real man or woman at the controls of a train with possibly hundreds of people on board...
