5D Mk II to 5D Mk III upgrade- is it worth it?

I went from a pair of 5D II to a pair of 5D III bodies. Best cameras I've ever owned. AF is great (it's not as good as the 1D X but fine unless you're shooting sport in the dark) and noise is surprisingly better than the Mk II - colour is more consistent and detail is better from ISO 800...

    Which 50mm prime?

Most friends I know have gone for the Sigma over the Canon (both 1.4). The Canon is getting quite long in the tooth and isn't a great lens for the money. It's remembering that the review will be based on a single lens so might not be a great example. Try and get hold of one yourself and do a...

    Gear, gear, gear

I agree Garry, there's far too much focus on what to buy and not how to use it. It's much better to use a single light source well as this picture proves.

    Insurance

The big issue with your home insurance may be the upper limit. My photographic insurance covers me up to £5m. There was a story in the news a few days ago about a girl how was left unable to walk after being in a car crash, caused by a guy driving dangerously, was awarded a £23m payout. If your...

    Octa

Peter, you'll get what you pay for. That octobox won't be as good as, say, the ProFoto one that costs £600. That said there are workarounds. If you're getting flaring off the light then you can usually block this with card or boards. Elemental's modifiers are fine for the money - have a look here.

    Youngnuo w/Canon Flash question

Is it always over-exposing? If so it sounds like the TTL isn't working and it's firing at full power all the time. Is this just an indoor issue? Normally I'd think it might be a pin issue but if the flash is new I'd assume they haven't been damaged. Does the flash do this if you shoot with it...

    L Lens

I agree with Steve's comment above. The 1.2 is a great lens, I use if for most jobs and 80% of my shots at a wedding are from it. But it took me a good few months of shooting with it to be completely comfortable with the focal length (and this comes after using zooms for years).

    Canon 5DMkIII v 6D/ new or used

Unless you need the focusing performance there's always the option of a second hand 5D II. Image quality wise they're great cameras. The 5D III is built better and, in my opinion, feels much more like a pro camera than the mark II, but I used the mark II everyday for a couple of years and never...
