I rented one from lensesforhire last year for a holiday walk about lens.
It's not that heavy to be honest. Build wise, it feels good although maybe not as good as an L lens.

Agreed. You'd have to adjust the aperture to settle on your target shutter speed.
Problem with this is you can be finding yourself adjusting it all the time if the scene and the lighting change. Where as using Tv mode will do it for you.

Well I think the focus point should have been changed thats all. It's hard to appreciate with such a large aperature that even slightly out of focus will be noticeable. If this was something like f/5.6 the face would have been in focus as well.
