PS makes a scratch disk no matter how much RAM you have. Look at the scratch size by using the tab at the bottom left, the same one you use to look at efficency (right click on it)
No matter how much ram you have PS will use the scratch disk. Set it to a different drive than your boot disk. The ideal is a dedicated SSD thats not used for anything else. Makes a big difference.
I use a 70-200 f2.8 canon and bought a canon 1.4 extender for it. I used it about 3 times but the difference in image quality was very noticable and I sold it on. I would go 100-400
Ive used a 50m f1.4 sigma with a 5d mk2 and mk3 and it was a fantastic lens (in hindsight I should have kept it) I sold it and now have the canon 85mm f1.2, its sounds corney but the 85mm is just spectacular. You cant describe it but any hum drum image comes to life when using it.
I can see both sides of the argument but I wouldnt pick what photos to go into the album, technically brilliant and artistic photos are all well and good but I dont know who or what the client prefers.
Im just about to do the same thing, I did some before our first child was born of my wife holding some little boots againts her stomach, she was tilted at a 45 degree angle to the camera and it worked really well. I will try and dig the photo out.
