Does the system recognise NEFs as picture files? I've read that unlimited storage is only for picture files.

i'd like to suggest the nikon 24-120mm f4. not quite f2.8 but quick enough for most situations and the extra reach does help

they seem to all list the af-s variant of the lens which is newer. I think i saw a comment somewhere stating that the mounts for af and af-s are different.

I've also got a 80-200mm f2.8! Hoping that it won't squeak at me anytime soon.

Could you guys recommend any alternatives to Nikon for servicing (an attempt at prolonging it's life) or motor replacement ? And just out of curiosity, does the newer 24-70mm have the same issues and lifespan?

Thank you both for the replies. Much appreciated. I forgot to mention that I actually sent the lens in for repair with nikon about 3 years ago. In that span of time I've had about 10,000 actuations with the lens attached. I've never been rough with my kit. Deckard , when did you get it fixed...

Perhaps a lens pen and some uv filters to protect the lens elements?

I've used one of these with a Nikon 50mm f1.8 . Extremely good pair up . Really sharp as long as you keep still! :) have fun !
